An Arabic-first cinematic scroll story: Mariam finds a cassette dated March 1962, hears her own voice from tomorrow, and closes a thirty-year appointment at 04:47.
The Challenge
Most Egyptian web stories either flatten into monuments-and-gold luxury or into English-first marketing pages. The brief was harder: keep Arabic as the native reading direction, let sound carry the mystery without trapping anyone who cannot hear it, and still perform on a mid-range phone. The tape had to feel like an appointment, not a souvenir.
Our Approach
- Wrote and paced thirty beats in Egyptian Arabic first, with English as a supporting translation rather than a mirrored layout.
- Built a true RTL film: frequency lamps, captions, and scroll motion follow Arabic reading order, then reverse cleanly for English.

The Challenge

The brief was harder: keep Arabic as the native reading direction, let sound carry the mystery without trapping anyone who cannot hear it, and still perform on a mid-range phone. The tape had to feel like an appointment, not a souvenir.
Our Approach
- Wrote and paced thirty beats in Egyptian Arabic first, with English as a supporting translation rather than a mirrored layout.
- Built a true RTL film: frequency lamps, captions, and scroll motion follow Arabic reading order, then reverse cleanly for English.
- Treated sound as optional narrative: a live, slow waveform follows the vocal band of the score; mute, reduced motion, and full captions keep the story complete in silence.
- Shipped a media pipeline (LQIP + responsive WebP) and deferred GSAP until the visitor plays the tape, so the first screen is not waiting on the whole film.
- Kept the experience on its own subdomain so the studio chrome never interrupts the cassette. The portfolio case study is the trailer; the film lives at voice.projectalpha.tech.

The story opens in a 1960s radio workshop and ends on a present-day Cairo Nile still. The last frame is the appointment, not a monument postcard.

Locked the 1962–1992 loop, the seven dated sounds, and the 04:47 close before any framework or component library entered the room.
Direction
Archive, not spectacle
Hand-painted mixed-media grade, tactile paper and copper, dawn colour. No pharaonic luxury skin, no generic MENA stock as identity.
Build
Scroll film
Pinned 30-beat timeline, deferred motion, media derivatives, live waveform from the score, bilingual captions.
Launch
Voice + case study
Deployed the film to voice.projectalpha.tech and placed it first in the Project Alpha work index, with locale-correct doors back to brief and work.
